The door speakers in my 328 have not worked since I bought the car; occasionally I guest a little "buzzing" which at least lets me know they are hooked up, but that's about all.

A local 348 owner who had upgraded his system gave me the speakers he had taken out of his doors; they seem to be the same size as those in the 328 and are in good condition.

I had hoped all I needed to do to get to the speakers was to remove the four small screws in the cloth panel over the speakers, but that is obviously not enough. (I was able to see the old speakers just enough to prove that the woofer cones are disintegrating!)

So can anyone confirm that I have to remove the entire inner door panel to get to the speakers? How many fasteners should I have to remove? Does the armrest/map pocket have to come off the door separately or will it come off with the whole panel? Are there any other pitfalls to watch for?

I can't help you with the specifics of a 328 door but I can tell you I just swapped the speakers in my 308. I put in a pair of Infinity Kappa Component speakers. Had to use the 5-1/4 woofers. I put in that Dynamat door stuff all around it too. I tried 3 or 4 different amps but finally decided on a 850 watt 4 channel (I have two Anthony Gallo Nucleus home speakers in the rear deck. They are little black ball speakers that look cool and fit in perfectly).

It is amazing how nice my Blaupunkt cassette circa 1981 sounds now. I can hear it just fine on the highway at 70 with the top out. I have never been able to say that before. My only complaint would be those huge 1 guage power cables for the amp.

    Hi Mr. Perniokff,

Email me at [email protected]. I'll email you back pictorial on how to remove 328 door panel. not difficult, only challenge is to ensure the lock knobs move freely after reinstallation.

For the 328, the whole panel needs to come off. Not difficult to do, just common sense, remove all the screws, from the front, sides and bottom. Also remove the lock pull on top.

The speaker is a mid/woofer...you can install a 6.5" co-axial speaker to good effect. The stock mid/woofer just get old and worn out....
