My 328 seems to be rich on startup. I get a blueish haze ( very little though ) and a smell of fuel in the exhaust fumes that burns the eyes. i'm quite sure the haze is not oil as the car has not used a drop ever. ( relatively ) its @30 000.00 miles or 50 000.00 Km and running like a demon. The stinging fuel smell and haze goes away quite fast as the car warms up.

    What causes this ?

Watch out for the fibre washer on the bleeding screw on the radiator. This thing will leak or suck air if its not perfect and its hard to detect as it usually drips and sucks under pressure only. If you ever smell mystery coolant replace that lil washer pronto.

Most obvious suspect would be the aux air valve. The thermo-time switch and cold start injector (and warm up regulator) all give more fuel at start and warm up, with the aux air valve providing additional air.

A corroborating symptom would be cold idle no faster than warm idle. (Usually all the extra air and fuel makes the cold idle faster.)

But then, there are zillions of little parts working (hopefully) together in a CIS system.
