Do you prefer the 328 (either GTB or GTS) with or without the roof spoiler?

The roof spoiler is not unique to the 3x8. Lots of cars had 'em. (BMWs, Supra, etc.)

Compare the "Sonic the Hegehog" fins on other cars (e.g. EVO FQs).

Roof fins are often used with big wings. Roof spoilers are often found with Kamm tail lips.

Looking over some internet stuff on roof spoilers, they seem related to how the air comes off the roof.
The airflow can't make the sharp turn to follow the rear window, so the spoiler seems to be intended to manage the air behind the roof, possibly to reduce drag from rear vortex.

But it seems odd that a "drag reduction" spoiler was standard on US models but optional on Euro models, since Euro roads often exceeded the US "national maximum speed limit" of the time. Unless it was thought to improve highway fuel mileage, for "CAFE" standards.

I'd think that removing the roof panel on a GTS would throw the "airflow" calculations out the window. ;)
But how many of us run at freeway speeds with the top off?

I figure there was originally some purpose to it.
But look how often F1 cars lose bits of aero fins, with no effect on performance. ;)

The general consensus on it's function is "damfino". :p

Both with because it just looks nice -especially when painted in the 328 colour- and it is typical for the 80-ties. Many if not most were sold with.

This is mine 5.1988 that i own little over 10 years. Originally with all leather incl. dash, inner roof and behind the chairs in PELLE BEIGE 3218 D.

I prefer a black spoiler to red (or none). Even if pointless, it's a classic look.

Though mine lacks a spoiler, and I doubt I'll ever drill holes in the deck to install one. It looks nice even without.

Thank you :). I bought this car in 2007 because of the colour combination; because it was originally delivered (Hamburg/Germany) with all possible options, hence dash, roof and rear window shelf in leather and the ABS. Last but not least because it is very rare this beige leather all over. It looks great but of course do I have more reflection in the front window so for longer rides I put a small black towel over the dash-clocks.

It seems that in the US is a 2nd 328GTS with full beige leather.

No need to go that far, Menno...(except that today is "Independance day", of course!)
Yours is #77623; her twin sister, absolutely identical in every respect, is #80488, which was also delivered new in Germany; she is still there, as far as I know.

There are a small number of 328s with all leather interior, and in the same color. I saw #80347, for instance, a french GTB, red all over including dashboard, etc (too much red for my taste).

    We could also mention:
#79624, a US Model GTS; exterior white, interior Beige all over except the Dashboard which is Brown.
#80929, a US Model GTS: exterior red, seats Crema; Dashboard, door panels, door handles, armrests are Rosso.

Etc...there are not many, but there are a few...

My '79 GTS came with one and I really like the look. Don't think it's original so I took it off. If anyone needs one let me know. I can ship from Ogdensburg NY or take it to the UK in August.

My old 328GTB was full leather from the factory including dash and rear shelf.

It was also delivered with a spoiler. A Cavallino judge told me US GTBs were mostly delivered with with spoilers.
