Small oil leak where the shifting lever shaft enters into the engine sump and then into the gear box. There are two seals that I want to replace. I need to remove the old seals and thrust washers. There are 3 aluminum tabs or wedges that hold the thrust washers in place. I cannot pry these out, do I bend them out to get clearance and peen them back when I put the new seal in? No replacement part shown for tabs. Concerned before going further. Thoughts anyone.

    Thanks Gary

Do not touch those. The washers as you refer to them are not to be removed. The seals are replaced with those in place.

Thanks for the quick response, so the new seal will not be damaged when crimping through the thrust washer hole? Removing the old seal, just pick it out with somthing sharp, clean area, oil area and put in new seal?

    Thanks Gary

Your old seals are probably hard and will be broken up in the removal process.
The new ones will be soft and pliable. Just fold as required to get them in the hole then with small, blunt (no sharp edges) tools work them into the grooves.

A little easier said than done but take your time and it will go OK.

Thanks again for the information, seals went in like a dream. As you stated, the old ones were quite hard. A question for clarification, I took the old ones out prior to receiving the new ones and did not notice that the seals had a flat side and the other side is concave as I removed them. When I put the new ones in, it seemed correct to put seal in with the flat side of the seal against the thrust washer. So, looking into the motor, from the front, the seals have the concave side facing into the motor.

    Thanks Gary
