I need to separate the seat backs and bottoms of my 328 seats. Looking at the exploded diagrams it appears simple enough to disassemble the hinges on both sides, but I've never done this job before and my only concern is the heavy spring that provides the tension for the seat back, and whether I will be able to get it back in its correct tensioned position on reassembly. The spring is located on the side opposite of the seat back release lever.

I'm sure some of you have done this, maybe as a step in installing new seat covers. Is it easy enough to reassemble these hinges, or a PITA? I just want to be sure before I go down a rabbit hole.

Thanks guys. My seats are from an 89 328 and the hinges are entirely different, but if the spring tension isn't a problem I guess I don't need to worry about it.

my is also 89. The hinge tension will be an issue, but you can find a way to do it without any help. Just take it apart an on the way back, I'll help you.
