    Facts:
It is likely that in July I will move in Manila, Philippines. Duration is likely to be 5 (five) years. No chanches for me to bring the car here (demential traffic).
    Option 1
While I will be oversea, my brother will take the commitment to start the beloved one every couple of weeks, driving it around the block. Car will be pampered, taken care of etc etc but will not be driven properly. When back, major service and on the road again.
    Option 2
I sell the car. Strong market, proper sale, When I am back I go for 512TR (if Maura allows so). No certainty on the fact that I will be allowed...

    What do you guys think?
    Ciao
    Eugenio

I would suggest selling Eugenio. The starting and driving round the block over 5 years, doesn't sounds particularly good to me. Its easy to get attached to a car and think 'I'll never find another one this good' but you will. And if not you can go for something else.

You also have the luxury of time on your side. Give the car to a dealer to sell on commission, you will get the best price and avoid the hassle of having to deal with buyers yourself. Now is also the right time to sell it.

And whenever you are back in europe you can catch a drive in Ton's new 512TR to satisfy your lust for that Fcar feeling again ;)

    Cheers
    Simon

    I agree with Simon.
I know that it breaks your heart but I also think that the best option is to sell the 328. The market for 328's is good. Put the money in a fund and buy your 512TR after five years.

Or even better....... buy your 512TR now, and let me take care of it in the meanwhile! :)

Selling it is the most rational and probably smartest thing to do... without a doubt the best for the car...

Keeping it is the most emotional thing to do... a decision of the heart...
An extra reason to come back to Italy more often...

    I think I would keep it :)

It depends i guess! If you're planning to go to Italy on a regular base i think i would keep it! It makes your holidays even more something to look out for!! :)
328 prices aren't going to drop i think (hope) so you're not throwing away that much money either! So if you want to buy a 512TR after those 5 years you probably get the same money as you would sell right now! Okay, if you sell now you can put the money in a funds which makes some extra cash (hopefully ;) ) BUT.... you won't be driving an F-car for 5 years!! :(
It all depends on your personal situation really!
Hope you get it sorted out soon!

I would almost certainly keep the car if I was the owner!
Just the fact that there is no certainty, that I would be allowed to buy another car after five years, would make the decission easy for me......I would definately keep the car, and then, if I was allowed, I would consider selling it after I got back home and replace it with a 512TR :)
My only problem would be that I would NEVER entrust my brother with the keys to a Ferrari!!!
I hope you will get to the right conclusion Eugenio :)
    Good luck!!!

If it's well looked after and you are going to be back to drive 2/3 times a year at least, then keep it I say. It's a gorgeous example and as has been said do you really want to risk losing the fargument in a few years?

    Hi Eugenio,

Firstly, congratulations on the new job. I'm sure that I speak for a number of us when I say that we look forward to visiting you guys out east. :D

When I moved to Prague 10 years ago I was faced with a similar predicament. I had a beautiful Alfa Spider that came with a lot of sentimental baggage. I decided to keep the car....and still have it.

I must admit that for the first 5 years I just let it stand, and only drove it when I got back to SA every 6 months. That was not good, and stuff started happening - like the suspension sagging, for example. I then spent a lot of money on the total, bottom up rebuild and then left the immaculate new car in managed care. I pay the guy who rebuilt it an annual charge to store the car for me, to do all preventative maintenance and to drive it every weekend at least. It's a great solution.

Believe me (and I'm sure you've experienced this), when you go home it's NEVER a holiday - more like 80% administration and 20% family maintenance! My car IS my holiday when I go back to SA and I will give it up only under duress.

I say keep it - you've got it, you love it, it's a special vehicle for you and it will be great to come home to. It certainly won't lose value and, sure, you are probably going to have to invest in it at some stage, but it will be less than you would have spent if you stayed in Italy and drove the car all season. Hey - then you'll also be able to fly to Euroland for F-Chat trips! That would be a bonus :)

Keep her - she's gorgeous. At the end of the day it's only money....follow your heart is what I say.

    MARK

Ferrari is about passion, emotion and the heart. It's not about cold "buy & sell" decisions, practicality and pragmatism. If it was, we'd all be driving BMW's instead.

I wanted her all your life - keep her....

Keep it! Your 328 is in a very good condition with low km on the clock.
Hard to find a car like this with every detail in original state.
But if something on your 328 disturbs you (like the emission laws/taxes) and
you wish to drive a different model anyway, she has to go right now. :(
Don't try to store it over years. Give it to the "next guy" - maybe to a FChatter. We want to see it on our roads!
