Do a search if you need further info as this has been discussed/asked a few times before, but is very simple.
There is a lock nut under the knob. Yes, it is a simple screw-off. You can tighten the lock nut to align once your replacement knob is set where you want it. Very easy to do.

17 mm lock nut underneath the shift knob, loosen it then the knob unscrews. Put the new knob on and tighten to your liking/alignment, then tighten the lock nut

Is it different on a 348? To change my shift knob I just unscrewed the old one and screwed the new one on. No locking nut. Am I missing it or does the 348 not use it?

I have a 79 308 GT4, and for all intents and purposes, it's mechanically the same as a "standard" 308...my aftermarket shiftknob (purchased from Ricambi America!) just screwed on with no locknut.

    Best -
