    I am recovering my rear shelf and I heard of a trick using a rope to put back in the rear window. Does anyone have thedetails of how to do this. Also what is the best way to get the window out

    I remember some threads on removing the quarter windows in the old fchat. However couldn't turn them up. Here's what I remember:

    REMOVAL:
    Run a dull strip of thin metal like a table knife around between the window's gasket & the body to break the bond between them. Do this for both the inside & outside of the window.

    Then I believe you just start working one edge of the window gasket out of the body, & slowly work your way around the window. Probably would help to have some dish soap & water in a squeeze or squirt bottle to help lubricate the rubber.


    INSTALL:
    You wrap a cord around the gasket in the groove the body slips into, this holds the gasket around the window. Leave the cord ends dangling.

    Then insert one edge of the window gasket over the body. Work the gasket onto the body as much as you can, then unwrap the cord. As the cord unwraps it will pull the gasket thru the opening & up over the body.

    That's the rough idea as I recall it. Hopefully some one else remembers more, or can find the thread(s).

    Do the 1/4 windows need to come out to do this job?

    I think so, believe I saw quarter window removal in a rear shelf removal thread earlier today. Search the body of posts in the old fchat archives for:
