I was hoping someone could check their car and advise if prior to starting their car if the slowdown light stays on when the ignition is in the "ignition on" position (prior to starting) or it times out.

I have just removed an alarm from my car and the slowdown light times out after about 5 seconds after the ignition is selected to the ignition on position. I seem to recal that this light stayed on until the engine is started (or am I wrong). I am concerned that I may have disturbed other wiring when I removed the alarm.

After the slowdown light times out the only lights that are on are the alternator charging and low oil pressure indicator lights that switch off once the engine is started.

    Thaks in advance.

    You are wrong ;)

The self-test is time-based (light goes off a couple/few seconds after the key is placed in Pos II (no relationship to engine running or not -- although on a flaky ECU a little vibration from engine running or a slightly higher voltage from the alternator with the engine running might sometimes have an effect).
