    I bought a 1986 328GTS in California and shipped it to New Zealand.
    Some of the anti-smog parts have rusted or melted.
    If I remove it all do I have to change anything else to keep it running smoothly and starting/idling correctly?

    You have to plug it all up. And it will run fine.
