I've got an '87 328 that I'm pretty sure has a vacuum leak. Under the coolant expansion tank is a little valve that the parts book describes as a "Solenoid valve." I searched extensively through the archives and I cannot find any relevant posts. Here is my question: The valve has two electrical connections, and what appears to be three vacuum connections. Two are connected- one to the air injection cut off valve, and one to the bottom of the throttle body. The manual doesn't show a third vacuum line, and in typical Ferrari fashion doesn't show the whole part. There is a metal nipple sticking out from the front of the valve that sure looks like it should either be plugged or should have something attached to it. (It obviously has neither.) Any suggestions??

    Many thanks in advance,
    dce

If the valve your talking about is the one I am thinking of you have a vacume supply port, a vacume port hooked to a device that needs vacume and a port vented to atmosphere so that when the device switches off the vacume in it is vented to the atmosphere. If you find a MB shop in your area a lot of them have a smoke machine they can hook to your intake and fill it with smoke then you watch for where it comes out and that is your leak. I say look for an MB shop because MBs have a lot of vacume controled devices and therefore having to find leaks is common practice. I hope this helps you.
    Good Luck

Smoke machine... Sounds like an interesting idea, but I wonder how they prevent the smoke from going thru the cylinder and out the tailpipe?
