I am having a starting problem with my 328. The starter turns but does not engage with the fly wheel. It was doing this last year. It would mostly do it when the engine was hot. I replaced the solenoid and the problem went away. Now it is back. It is still intermittent but does not appear to be related to temperature like it was last year.

unless I read something wrong, the first thing I would think of if you hear the starter motor turning and the the engine is not being cranked is that the pinion gear in the starter is not making contact with the flywheel teeth to turn the engine over.

pinion gear doesn't get push out far enough on its shaft to make contact with the flywheel. when things heat up tolerances are closer.
also make sure the starter is bolted up tight to the engine good voltage to the soleniod.

    pinoin gear teeth worn, missing

have the starter overhauled and checked?

just curious if you put the car in gear and move the car forware a little bit by pushing it, then try and use the starter, with the car in neutral of course....

I don't think the problem is with the starter engaging. I took off one of the fuel lines and had my wife try to start the car and no fuel came out. Looks like the fuel pump is not working

    Fuse #9?

When you crank the engine, the throttle plate safety switch is momentarily bypassed to allow power to the fuel pump. This uses relay "r" and fuse 9, if memory serves.
