Noticed small amount of what looks like motor oil leaking from lower side plate on steering box. I have seen other threads on search but I would like to know if I remove top plate what to fill it with. I have heard everything from putting a grease fitting in and filling with wheel bearing grease to 90w oil. What should go in there?

Also if I remove the top plate what lies under it. Can I drill a grease fitting on the side plate without removing it or will I hit somthing under it.

    Thanks

90 weight will leak out again, and wheel bearing grease will be to thick to lubricate properly. What you need is 00 or 000 weight grease, which has the consistency of mayonnaise. About your only choice today is Shell Alvania, which has limited availability. I have a 5 gal bucket here, and can pore off 8 oz for you, which is what your rack will need (PM me).

You should inspect your rack, they typically do not leak unless something is broken. The most likely place is the O-Ring seal, or the boots (bellows/gators).
