$65-72k is well above 348 money. A 328 is a much stronger investment than its succesor these days. Nice QV, by the way.
I agree with the comments here about not driving on tires that old. If you put new tires on the car, you might consider slightly larger ones. I followed the advice on various threads here and went to Bridgestones 225/50R16 front and 245/45R16 rear. These look excellent and have behaved beautifully (at least for me). I also agree that after sitting for such a long time, the car should be flatbedded to a good Ferrari mechanic for a detailed mechanical inspection before driving. I purchased my 89 328 with about 500 miles on the odometer; it had been in storage. Between new tires, major service, and various details (A/C seals, etc.) it cost between $5-10K to get it properly fit to drive - which it now is, nicely. Also from FChat I learned that the 328's lights (headlight, brake, etc.) can be upgraded from the very-marginal original, and I highly recommend this. For expert guidance contact Daniel Stern Lighting at (416) 766-2327. There are also threads here that discuss ways to brighten the instrument lights from their original dimness. You've got a beautiful, classic car there; with some prudent care it can be pleasantly drivable.
If you look carefully, you'll notice that most 1989 328 gts are worth more then the 348. If you could find a 1989 328gts with 10,000 miles for $45-$52, please let me know. I'm always looking to make a profit.
I don't know where you're located, but some shops offer discounts in winter. And if it hasn't been serviced for a while, if you put it in for service now, you'll have it back to drive by summer.

They are both '86 models and the previous one posted is an '87. Fine cars indeed but low mile '89 models always command a premium.
A premium maybe but $72K??? http://www.premiercars.com/Inventory/59/ferrari-p2802 http://www.chooseyouritem.com/exotics/files/62000/62252.html And I can't find it right now but this morning I saw a yellow 1989 for sale at a porsche dealer with 15K miles asking price:$55K. I figure dealer premium is 10%
Ahh, yes, but the mileage is not below 10k on the first link. Don't know about the second one. I am hoping the 328 continues being hypes as a great investment, it can only make the 348 seem like a bargain if prices on the 328 models rise to say $80k. BT
Thanks. I'm in San Jose, California...Anybody knows of a reasonable independent mechanic the area please let me know...The other thing is I'm pretty familiair with car/truck...I rebuilt my car/truck engine/tranny/brake/suspension/differiential and also replace timing belts before... I bought the Ferrari back then to full fill a dream when I was a kid and got nothing to do with investment seriously. I've been modifying this truck for the last 2 years and it's blocking the Ferrari from being driven out...Ouch!!! Thanks guys!!!! Btw, I know, I know the Ferrari does need a road. I recommend: Geoff Provo GP ENTERPRISES 3014 Rolison Road Redwood City, CA 94063 Phone: (650) 766-5405 A very nice gentleman and a magician with Ferraris. He took my long-stored 89 328GTS, did the major, went over it 100% and did everything necessary to return it to safe, roadworthy condition. Since then I've put another 1K miles on the car; everything's perfect.
80K--hells yea!!! Mine be gone NOW!!!--If I could get a meesly 60K--be gone now!! Hell I will take the first 57k--right now---89 328 GTS 37k miles, many upgrades!!!
Both of those are "sold". Top one had ~30K miles. I think $70K is about right for a 10K mile '89, serviced right. $55-60K is probably right for a pre-'89 with similar miles, services up to date. At least the second auction for this car, discussed elsewhere. It's bounced around the country a lot, out of state plates for some reason, etc. The $55K price would be right if it had a recent service and checked out OK.
If you do not mind me asking what was the total you spent to get your low mileage 89 328 back to top running order? Meaning Major service cost plus any other costs needed?
$5,000 to do a full major service and go over and fix/lubricate anything in the car that might have suffered from it sitting for several years. Then $950 for the four new tires, alignment, and WheelWorksGold tire care policy. Those were the "necessary" things. Additionally I put a Tubi exhaust on the car, replaced its door speakers with good ones (when the door rugs were off, the original speakers' paper had just about disintegrated from age!), and added an AM/FM/CD/XM-satellite radio. Also, as noted above, had all of the car's lights upgraded. Added an alarm/unlocking system. Replaced the original steering wheel with a current-generation Momo Monte Carlo anatomical wheel. Mats. Dust cover for the carage. Viewed next MasterCard statement with sheer horror.
Both of those are sold which means; They went for asking price or less. Here's one that looks like it just went on the market. http://members.cardomain.com/white328gts
A red 1989 328GTS with 10K miles, services up to date, is a $70K car (on average). If Premier sold an '89 with 30K miles for $60K, that makes sense. The white/red 328 with 13K miles is probably priced fairly at $59K, especially for a private sale, but that's hard color combination to sell. The white/tan 328 at Marshall Goldman in Cleveland has been for sale for a year (different sellers), and a white/tan up in Portland was re-listed on eBay more times than I count. The discount for bizarre color combinations on these cars is very real. I turned down a black/red 308 last March solely because the colors bothered me. I ended up with black met/tan and I love it. That's the process a lot of us go through before we write the big check.
"I have got the itch again and I am considering a very clean 89 328 GTB, Red/Tan 4300miles. Its on consignment with a Fdealer. Its listed at $60k but needs the major. Salesman says it needs about $5k to get it where it should be mechanically. I think I can get it for $55k before service." http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95994 This is from a thread started this morning. I guess he should buy it, sell it for $72K then get his 355
If he has a dealer license and can thereby not pay sales tax, I agree that he could make some money on this one. Premier, Motorcars and other highline dealers would be asking $75K.
Bizarre? That's a rather strong word, how about we use 'unusual'. I get more compliments on the color of my car than you can imagine. Image Unavailable, Please Login
"Unusual," then. I considered a white/tan one that was supposed to be for sale in Denver, but the owner was reluctant to sell. In any event, in the context of this thread, pricing for the red/tan mentioned in the original post would be higher.
I believe it. Jim, every time I see a pic of your car I'm reminded how good the 3X8 cars look in the lighter colors; the styling details and nuances in design appear more evident/defined than on the darker colors (IMO). Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous! OK, thread hijacking over....sorry.
