I am replacing the thermostat on my '87 328. I purchased a new one from Ricambi and when I went to put it in, I noticed that it did not have the small hole in the flange that the old one had.

I assume the small hole is needed. Do I need to drill a matching hole in the new thermostat?

It allegedly helps with bleeding air from the system. However, I have a "hole-less" Ricambi T stat in my '89 328 and have never had any issues with bleeding or "air pockets" in the system. I change coolant, bleed one time per the Ferrari instructions in the owners manual and that's it until the next coolant change.

But do what makes you comfortable. If you are more comfortable with the hole, drill it! :)
