I have an 1987 328 gts. I'm working with Malcom West on a part, but am not sure if I'm ordering the right on since mine may be missing. If you remove my spare tire and then the battery hatch you see the battery. However under my battery or below it you see nothing, but the ground. It appears that a piece of the undertray is missing? it looks to be part # 60059706 on the US version. Could some one confirm. I do have a small rectangular piece that covers directly under the steering rack and has a hole for the tube that drains the a/c condensation. However, the panel I'm missing is directly below the battery and a little forward of it.

    Thanks
    Brent

    Hey Malcom,

Yes I guess it does. But as I looked at the piece coming off the back of the front air dam. At the edge underneath the car near the area I'm talking about there are 3 empty holes that look like something should attach too. I'm sure I shouldn't be seeing a big open space on the ground under and forward of the battery? It seems like the battery is exposed to rocks and dirt coming up from the ground. Is it part of the bumper?

    Malcolm,

I'm out of town until Friday. Don't worry if we can't figure it out, I can take a digital pic and email what I'm talking about this weekend. I'm sure you guys have whatever it is. Maybe someone on Fchat may have a pic too.

Brent, You aren't missing anything. It is open there. If you were to put the car up in the air on a lift, you could see the battery from below.

When I owned the car, someone said they thought I was missing something - I checked another 328 & it was the same as mine.

My '86 328 is open below the battery. In fact, I hook my battery charger up from the bottom of the car so I don't have to take the spare tire out.

Under my 328 battery there is a shelf that it sits on. The shelf is not solid ie it has discs drilled out of it. On its front lip is the fiddly battery base clamp. Definately OEM stuff.

I refurbished this shelf the other day because someone in my cars past life had jacked the car up on it and bent it upwards and battery acid had rusted it.

However under that again there is nothing. If you look down next to the battery you see the ground and the from the underside you see the underside of the battery shelf.
