Finally got a chance to take a photo of the revised dust cap and have attached it below. Dom Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dom: There was rumors that the wheel bolts on early cars weren't the correct length for the 328 wheels. Comments?
You know, I never actually weighed them. I seem to recall a thread somewhere (maybe the old Fchat archives) that discussed the various weights of the wheels. Dom
Is there a consensus on steering effort? I'm about to order new tires for my 308QV. I moved up to the 245/225 combination on my 328 and didn't notice significant increase in steering effort at low speeds. The 308 I just acquired has the 245/225 setup and steers heavier than the 328 did. The mechanic who did the PPI says it needs a steering rack, but I'm not sure of that. There is no slop in the steering. Will 205s on the front make the car steer easier?
May I add that Campagnolo's 8" rears do not have the "concave ring" or "circular groove" that the 8" rear Cromodora's do. This is where the "star dish" joins the outer ring dish. I'm not referring to the "star dish" "raising," if you will, away from the outer ring dish as on the front 16x7's of Campagnolo/Cromodora, nor the repro 7" & 8" wheels. Oh somebody help me out here with exact terminology... The Campagnolo and Cromodora's 16x8" rear wheel "star dish" is flush with the outer ring dish. Again though, the Cromodora adds a style groove at this junction. My Cromodora's are approximately 11lbs ea for the 16x7, and 13lbs for the 16x8. The reproductions are around 19-20lb, so I was told.
Morrie, I went from the stock 205/70/14 set up (on a 78 308 GTS), and bought a used set of QV rims and mounted the 225/245 set up. I did notice an increase in steering effort when parking. Once moving, it drove the same....well, except for having WAY more stick! I would be hesitant to use a 205/245 set up, as that would likely induce more understeer. Perhaps 308's steer with a bit more effort than 328's? That would be my inclination. My current 328 has Goodyear F1's in the stock 205/225 sizes...I intend to switch to Bridgestone SO3's in the 225/245 sizes in the next couple months. I will report back on my findings.
Weights reported from Ferrari UK (converted from kg to US lbs) for their new-old-stock 328 wheels: Fronts: 22.9 lbs Rears: 24.3 lbs
