Hello all interested: Just trying to compile all the parts needed and where to get them for anybody wanting to do the fuel injector changeover. I'd been contemplating this for years now and can't believe i sat on the idea for so long. One reason was i didn't know exactly which parts to buy. Hopefully this little compilation thread will help anyone else on the fence. I have a 1980 308 gtsi so you may have different iterations for QV, carb, and 328. First you need to pull the injector if you can't turn it out with a 12mm wrench or socket. I bought Verell's puller and it worked great. Others have used a cheaper puller that uses the spring load from a screwdriver and others still have made homemade tools. Hats off to those guys but this ham-fisted mechanic *points thumbs towards moi* felt confident using Verell's injector puller, it's well worth the money. Next you will you need the injectors themselves: www.autopartswarehouse.com Part #: W0133-1625313 I switched from the thick original rubber seals as they're only found from the U.K. to the green o-rings that click into the brown plastic inserts. www.autopartswarehouse.com Part #: BS3430210606 and the fuel injector inserts: (replaced the stock aluminum ones) www.autopartswarehouse.com Part #: 158-0142 You will also need a 12mm drive socket (hex) to turn the original injector insert out and put the new one in. Others have stuck with the original aluminum and thick black seals but i'm just showing you one way to skin this cat. Hopefully this helps...
Do you shoot pool at Pete's? My buddy lived on Hopkins St. in Neptune Beach and played alot of pool and drank alot of beer.
Pete's has been here for 70 some years. Atlantic Beach is more of a new age/Hippie beach but Pete's has stayed the same old pool hall and is kind of an institution here and all types and walks of life go there. I went once or twice last year i guess.
I've got two in so far and will wait for daylight to do the rest. This method of just snaping the injector into the carrier harness is fantastic just press them in 'till they snap. This can only be done with the 0-ring conversion i think. Be VERY careful when attaching fuel lines. They can seem tight but will still leak without that extra half turn or so needed to make it leak-free. I start the car and just stare at each injector with a flashlight to look for gas leaking. The first one i did seemed fine but leaked once started. Check and double check each fitting EVERYTIME!
Pete's? WOW I remember that place from the late '70s when I spent 6 weeks at the Sea Turtle while in the shipyard with a NASA vessel. BTW Stuart, how did the injector job turn out? I ask because I'm about to order everything to put my '80 GTSi back together.
Injectors in. Still didn't fix my glowing headers so off to the shop i guess. BTW Sea Turtle is now a 4 star mod hotel. www.oneoceanresort.com
