    Hi All,

am still looking at a couple of options on the Belgian market. I saw a couple of 328GTS (86 and 87 model - see other thread for details) that looked fine with some minor items missing or incomplete, priced around 37-38.000 Euro. However, service history a bit sketchy...

I also had a look at a late 88 (ABS model) with full service history, first owner (ferrariclub member), near perfect condition,... but asking price = 48,000 Euro.

So, question is, should I go for the second option (and blow my budget or go for first option and use the additional 10K for full major service and extras...

Looking at the prices in Europe, second one seems fairly expensive (and am not even looking at US models and cheap dollar..)

    Advice appreciated !!

    Regards,
    Frank

Frank, just my experience but I would go for the 48k option unless you get a very good and thorough PPI done on the 38k car.

I bought a car that had little history and eventually cost me more than 30% of the initial cost of the car to set right plus a lot of downtime.

If driving the car is all you want to do rather than spend lots of time replacing worn parts the 48k car is the go.

Saying that, 328s are famously reliable cars and you rarely hear bad things about them but if you do have to stat fixing things like exhausts, gearboxes, diffs, brakes it will soon pass the 48k car and you'll wonder why you didn't get it instead.

I personally think a good PPI is worth every cent you pay and a FFSH is only worth what the reputation is of the dealer it was done at.

Nice car btw , love driving them but a bit low on power, relatively speaking, you'll get more enjoyment out of the 48k one I think in the long run

    Cheers

    John

I am not really into 328's but 48K sounds extremely high price to me.
Thought a good and clean 328 must be available in the high 30's.

BTW, I am talking about euro's.

    Nothing to me!
I don`t care about books & papers - easy to fake/update them, and at least its just a stamp!

I prefer the personal inspection from my grand garage master!
Whatever the seller tells me.........I first bring the car to my garage master for a full inspection with engine out!
THAN, I realy know what has been done!

    My 0,02 Cents

Wait a bit longer. 48 seems too high for any 328 and 38 is too high for a 328 with questionable history. There are plenty of cars out there so avoid rushing.

The 328 is the cheapest ferrari to do a cam belt service. It was the last incarnation of the 308 and as such benefited from over 20 years of tweaks and changes to make it more mechanic friendly. The dealers I know charge around 700euros for cam belts on a 328. A 308 is about 1000euros.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the replies !

I will take them all under consideration.
First I am going to order the steering wheel spacer at Hill Engineering, have it fitted and see if it really makes a difference to the driving before making a final decision. At 1.88m, I do want to be able to drive without touching the steering wheel.

    About the 48k car:
    - car is fully original and FFSH from Francorchamps and Monza (only authorised dealers/importer worked on it)
    - car is being treated well, sits under special Ferrari cover and has Leather inserted footwell protection carpets, handmade in Maranello
    - owner is only reluctantly selling but getting a new 430, so can't have them both.

Basically, it looks like the car I would want but agree price is somewhat high. The asking price is actually the price being offered by the Ferrari garage if they would take over the car upon delivery of the 430, so negotiation on that would be hard...

By the way, has any tall driver any experience with the steering wheel spacer ?

    Regards,
    Frank

I suppose Ton should know about tall drivers and 328's.

48k is ridiculous! 38k is ridiculous for a car with a questionable history.
I have the feeling that we are having the same discussion over and over again. Your enthousiasm keeps on pulling you towards the wrong cars. In the old days I used to have the same problem with women. :)
In the end it is worth the wait! Don't hurry! Pay 40k max for a good 328 GTS!

I am 1.94m tall. That is not comfortable in a 328 but it is allright for a drive. It is usually more comfortable with the roof up instead of with the roof behind the seats.
