    Hello all!

Just got into Ferrari's and happened to buy a 328GTS 1989 US spec.
Started looking into exhaust options and figured out that Euro spec is non-cat so the whole system if I understand correctly, is totally different from US-spec cars.

Was wondering if there's a way to get rid of catalytic converter and the whole Y-pipe that connects both manifolds into one catalytic converter?

Basically to have 2 separate pipes coming into euro-spec muffler, like Capristo?

Looks like otherwise only US-spec mufflers would work with one-pipe coming in, and my concern is - it will never sound as good as euro-spec cars due to that.

    Thank you all!

A good custom exhaust shop could fabricate what you are wanting to do - they do that sort of thing all the time. It's just a matter of bending pipe and fitting whatever muffler(s). They would, of course, need the car to do the fitting; I doubt that there is an aftermarket supplier of a ready-made system.

You should be aware that the Original, Factory Spec "euro" (= Non-Cat) muffler does not separate the exhaust gases from the two cylinder banks each on one side, that is: one bank discharging on the right side, the other on the left.
I have posted a few times already a picture of an "euro" exhaust sawed open by a friend of mine: the gases from the front and rear exhaust banks are mixed into the muffler before discharging, they are not separated by banks.
(by the way, on euro cars the front cylinder bank discharge on the passenger's side, the rear on the driver's side, but again: the gases are mixed together in the muffler).

So don't conclude that, because on "Euro" (= non-cat 328s) the banks discharge each on one side, the different noise from the "euro" cars would come mainly from two separate exhaust channels: once again, all the gases are mixed in common in the muffler before exiting by the exhaust pipes (The design of which also explain that, at idle, just after starting the car, the pipes on side release more gases than the other ones).

Should you want a fully separated exhaust line for each bank, it would of course be possible through the work of any good exhaust shop.

Just buy a Tubi, and a test pipe ( Larini) and be done with it. Use a K & N filter, the car will literally wake up, its that simple. When you have to smog the car, swap out the test pipe with the cat, and then swap back. Ive had my set up for 21 years, and 104,000 miles, on my US spec 89 GTS. The Tubi has the absolute best sound thats period correct for the car.

    Thank you,

Thank you, after doing some research and getting feedback here, I think this is exactly the route Im going to take - Test pipe + Tubi Race muffler and a nice performance air filter.

Put the car on a dyno before/after and let us know the results!

The results would probably be so insignificant that you would have to be a hell of a driver to feel that difference:)
