Tom Yang reports that 5107 is going to be going live on BaT very soon. Any thoughts on value? How many of the 50 cars made it to the US? Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
Marcel, where does 5107 fit in the 50? Must be one of the last? Looks like an interesting car... it would be fantastic in it's original white/red color combo, but looks like it has been resale red for a long time. The question is, will it end up going for a price closer to a 330GT or a 250GTE, or more than both?
According to the registry, 5125 is the last 330 America. 5107 is 5th from last one produced. The bid went from $60k to $135k while I was browsing the listing. Wondering if it will be a $500k+ car. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
It looks fine to me. The sellers have an 800+ car collection that is one of the most amazing I have ever seen, and I believe their own restoration/maintenance staff. Obviously they chose not to restore this one. Personally, I would drive it for a while as-is and then repaint it in it's original white. I would leave the interior alone, though.
I kind of want it, but probably not at the price it will go for. And I'm not sure I have room for another car at the moment. And, to tell you the truth, while I think the 330 is probably a better driver than a 250GTE, the experience of having the 250 motor would be meaningful to me.
May not necessarily be “a fright pig”, but I think that by general expectations of todays buyers, she’s probably in a need of quite comprehensive (or total ?) restoration and mechanicals alone would require about the same effort (& $$s) as a SWB or a GTO, when OTOH, costs & efforts of proper coachwork (i.e. body, interior & trim) restoration on a model like this would far exceed either of those. Ain't it funny how it works ? Perhaps the seller had been advised of these prospects and decided to sell it "as is" instead ?
Just looks like too much lurking rust. I don't otherwise mind the rough brightwork or the "patina" of the interior. And I am generally in the market for a fun 60s vintage driver...
I’ll second the point that the owners are well knowledgeable in terms of upside and downside in value and comparing those against full restoration costs. Hence the current sale of the car. “What you see is what you get” here.
Most of their other Ferraris (and most of their cars, but not all) are heavily restored. So that may well be a factor, even though I think they have their own restoration facility. Or it may be that they just want to devote that restoration time to other projects. Given the scale with which they operate, I doubt if money was a factor, but shop time and attention probably was a significant one.
330 GT registry says it was originally white/red: http://www.330gt.com/Detail/5107.html A previous owner on BaT claims it was red/red to begin with. How do I find out..?
5107 GT: AGAIN: Original exterior color: Bianco 20414 A Italver. Original interior color: Rosso VM 3171. Chassis type 575. Engine type 209/B, internal #1850/62 E. Gearbox type 575, internal #41. Rear axle type 575, internal #345. Pininfarina Body # 68696. Marcel Massini
White makes more sense given the color of the dash. Marcel, did they make any red/red GTEs or Americas? If so I'd be curious if they painted the dash red to match the body-- that would seem to me to be red overload, but what do I know...
This auction closes today and the bidding is heating up. The seller has taken a pretty casual approach to the process IMO. It will be interesting to see if it sells.
It will sell. Seller has a massive collection in Salem, WA called The Brother's Collection. They are probably just looking to get whatever they can for the car, they definitely don't need the money. http://tomyang.net/blog/page/8/ Note: blog post address changes every time Tom adds a page. The page I'm linking right now is called "West Coast Trip Towards Sea-Tac." The page number will increase as he adds posts.q Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
