The 330 I am buying is getting sorted by the dealer before I pick it up- they are going thru everything mechanically before they give it to me and although the price is fixed they are doing alot of extra things for me- Great! Today during a test drive they noticed a driveline vibration at above 40 mph and said they are replacing a "flex joint on the driveshaft". Is this the rubber donut I hear so much about that commonly needs replacing with age? They are also replacing a pinion seal- what is that?

    Thanks,

    Dan

You are likely correct that the "flex joint" is the donut at the front of the driveshaft. These joints are durable, but do deteriate over time and do cause a vibration just as you describe. The pinion seal that you mention is probably the sealing washer at the back of the driveshaft behind the mounting for the universal joint to the driveshaft. If this is the "seal" of which they speak, it would not be an uncommon problem on a vehicle that was experiencing vibrabtion in the drive shaft to require that this seal be replaced along with the flex joint.

    Best wishes
