lost the left bank of my v12 the other day. i had been working on the right side prior and thought the issue would be on the right but its not. on the few occasions I got engine to stumble and run for a second, its clear right bank works left does not. not a fuel issue. no spark.

the problem is my car has a motorola electronic ignition module from the 70s/80s. the pick up sits near the distributor cam but there is no reductive magnet on the cam ( like in pertronix) - it literally senses the peak of the cam as it goes by the sensor and changes the magnetic field I guess.

Both coils check out to spec in terms of Ohms, both HV to + and + to D.

Here is my confusion, when switched on,
    1) the right coil gives me 1.4 V when I measure it on the D post, and 10V on the the + post
    2) But the Left coil ( no spark side ) gives me 10V on both the + and the D terminal
it doesnt change if I change the engine piston position.

is this a bad sensor in the distributor?
or a bad coil ( but with no leakage by Ohms )?
or the fact that I dont have my ignition module hooked up right now?

I spent 4 hours checking and tracking things down, and I am now confused about the voltage differences in the Right and left coils at the D (-) terminal.

Maybe I shouldn't be checking voltage there,(I needed to confirm a wire that goes to the module and was using switched on voltage to determine which one of the wires went to the + terminal of the coil, and when both wires read 10-11 volts, it made me confused).

before i attach or do anything else, I just need some coil basics. thanks in advance michael

    all ok now-
coils, cables, etc all checked out fine.
    the motorola unit was bad.
i replaced with one I found on internet a while back and it started right up.
