Does anybody know what type of audio speakers were originally used in the 330 GTC? I guess they were dealer installed so type may vary, but I'd like to hear what people have found.

I mean like what size: 4X6 inch oval, round... There's not a whole bunch of room in the little rear deck speaker enclosures, so I'm thinking a pair of 4X6 speakers.

You can buy good reproductions of old speakers and I want to install a set to go with my nice vintage Europa radio.

    Thanks!

Colombo V12's make their own music. Toss the radio and speakers into the trash.

I believe that all radios and speakers were dealer installed, Dan.

That leaves a lot of latitude.

I'm in the process of changing out the speakers in my 1969 365 GTC because one has a broken cone wire. The car has what I believe is the original "Voxon Stereo 8" radio/8-track (although dealer installed has a "Ferrari" stamp on the amplifier box?) playing through two unmarked 5.25" square speakers. I plan on replacing them with modern 5.25" speakers using the original mounting brackets but keeping the old speakers with the car for the next owner. A kind F-chatter sent me a copy of the original Voxon technical manual showing only 7 watts of audio output into 4 ohm speakers. I'm not expert at this but understand that modern amplified radios put out a big multiple of this power and thus most new speakers are designed to function at these levels and may not put out enough sound with an old radio. I'm expecting next week new speakers that should function at lower power and will post how they work with the Voxon radio.

That's very cool David, thanks for the photos. I took a good recent stereo out of the 330 and replaced it with an excellent (looking) mono Europa model that was current in 1966. I also scored a good vintage Hirschmann automatic antenna with a cast aluminum housing. The speakers still in it are 150 Watt, 4 Ohm Pioneers and the sound became super bright and tinny with the Europa.

The Europa has a separate amp, but I don't think the thing can properly drive the giant magnets in the Pioneers. I have had some older European home audio equipment that sounds bright and they just built things that way back then. However, I hope some regular single cone replacements with smaller magnets will work better.

I planned on trying a pair of 4X6 speakers from Becker Auto Sound to see how they work. I probably could fit some speakers like yours in though. The 330 GTC has small speaker housings built into the steel rear deck panel.

    Dan,
Thanks for the Becker Autosound link. Looks like a good source. If my Voxon can't drive the new speakers I'll give them a call.
My 365 GTC also has speaker box recesses in the parcel shelf metal deck.
Any ideas on how to reduce/eliminate ignition noise?
I want my radio working for authenticity but as others have noted, it all about the engine sounds!

Ignition noise? If you have metal core ignition cables, either resistor plugs or resistor plug caps are used to reduce noise. A properly shielded coaxial antenna cable can be important too. I don't know if it's possible for you to get some noise through the radio power feed if it's hooked up too close to the coil power feeds.
