So I was noticing a vibration at idle, and the engine was checked and it was nothing internal. Upon closer inspection the rubber in the Crankshaft pulley damper was found to be coming apart.

Anyone ever been through a crank pulley rebuild? Mine is being sent out any day.

I did it as a matter of course when I rebuilt my Daytona engine. 40 year old rubber usually doesn't stay attached to metal.

They come apart on modern cars too, it's no big deal to re-vulcanise them.

Do you have any oil leaking past the seal which the back of the pulley sits in? A vibrating damper will have stressed it.

Not that I have heard about yet. Is it a big deal to fix that seal?

Been quite a few years since I did a single cam engine, pretty sure timing case has to come off, so about 4-6 hours labour all up. Only change it if its leaking. (sorry if that's stating the obvious!)

How hard is it to replace the crankshaft pulley? Is it risky for thenengine to take it off? I assume my mechanics know how to do this properly?

It's a simple job, no risk to engine. Remove fanbelt, AC belt, undo pulley nut, remove pulley. May have to use a puller to start the pulley moving. It's on a keyway, goes back in the same position.

May have to remove radiator, no big deal.
