I'm planning to fabricate the small shelf in the passenger footwell, but various pictures I've seen show different attachment points. Below are a couple of examples. For those that have this, would you mind posting some pictures of how yours are attached and make reference if you believe yours to be original?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Part of the reason why you will see many different implementations of this feature is that not all GTCs were born with it (in particular, late examples often lacked it), but most owners feel compelled to add it when completing restorations, fearing it is "missing." Are you sure your car originally had one? What serial number GTC are you working on? I did a fair amount of surveying and research when I looked into mine (which was a very late car that did NOT originally have one, with no existing holes in either the central console or the kick panel). After all, this would be a pretty tough part to "lose" in a car that has never been previously restored, and so many cars are lacking it . . . .

    Michael,
That's a good point. I have seen some cars without it so your explanation makes sense. My car is a 1967 s/n 10489. The console panel does have a screw hole in about the spot where the bracket is attached and on the other side on the kick panel so I think it came with one.
    Thanks for posting your pictures.

I would agree, I think your car probably did have one originally. Mine was 10919 and did not originally have a shelf (and still doesn't). I found several other cars after 10800 (both GTC and GTS) that did not have the shelf. And, as I recall, 365 variants never had them.

Photo shows how I made mine after looking at a few that I thought were original. They had a lip with the radius bend along the straight edge and a sharper welded corner where the lip is curved on the end near door. The bend radius is larger than it looks in the photo.

    Dan,
Thanks. By welding the bend, didn't you lose the gradual role of the corner as shown in the pictures of John's shelf above?

The few that I looked at in other cars seemed to be made that way. They had a sharp bend along the curve where I welded it.
