    does anyone know if the rollers are hardened through or just case hardened. mine had some marks on so i ground 0.005" under. now i fancy going way under and changing the tappet screws to porsche type for a better foot on the valve tips.

    You might want to also ask about this over in the "Vintage" forum. There's a link to someone who already has the "kit" for this (smaller diameter follower + needle bearing + 2-piece ball-joint style setscrew) in this prior Vintage thread :

    I know that doesn't address your question about thru-hardened or surface-hardened on the stock followers, but these guys, Tom Yang, etc.. might know.
