I have the opportunity to acquire an original Ferrari 330GT 2+2 belly pan. It would complete my car which did not have one when I bought the car. The pan is in great original shape. I have no idea what a reasonable offer might be for the pan. Can you guys advise me on what a fair price for the pan might be? Thanks.

Would someone be so kind as to post shots with and without one?

Basically figure out what time and materials to have a new one made would cost and that is the value of the part. $300 is a rocking deal for an original.

I've always heard that you shouldn't use them and that Chinetti removed them when new (I bought one for my car but it has been sitting, still wrapped in shipping material, and I was not really planning on mounting it)

Is there any merrit to this?

    Regards,

    Art S.

It is my understanding that they were removed because it made the car hard to work on, not that there was anything wrong. Once it was taken off to do a lube or oil change, the dealers just didn't bother putting them back on.

    Tom,

I thought that flamable stuff accumulated there creating a fire hazard but, your explanation makes sense as well.

Good Point - When I pulled mine, it had at least 1/4 of an inch of old oil and grease over the entire thing. Not only was this a fire hazard, but another reason why the mechanics would not want to deal with it.

    Tom,

Cars that are maintained, usually not have such buildup.
Maintenece deficient cars, that a whole other story.

Mechanics tended not to reinstall, because they were lazy or forgot.

True. I guess the twenty years of sitting on concrete blocks in a back yard would count as a lack of maintenance...

Also, I severely doubt caked on fluids on a belly pan, installed on a car that doesnt run, is indeed a fire hazard.

Not the same car with and without, but you can get the idea what gets covered.

Notice the heat shields over the mufflers in the lower picture. These are frequently missing too.
