333 SP

I feel that any of the low production cars will be winners. The 333 sp is a great car that can be driven by anyone with a little care. It is very easy to drive, much easier than most production 12's or 8's.

Remember that cars with race history are good investments, even better with winning race history.

 

This could very well be Ferraris last all out sports racer. They are expensive to maintain are parts are sometimes difficult to obtain. A prospective purchaser needs to do his homework. Engine rebuilds have been quoted at upwards of $100K. What many guys do is sell their cars just before they're due for a rebuild. Be careful!! Do you need engine rebuild after 24 hours?

 

The factory literature called for a "light rebuild" after two races and a major rebuild after two light rebuilds. Since the cars were basically designed as Sprint racers I am not sure what this meant from a time standpoint. I would imagine a full twenty four hour race was about the longest one could go.
Believe it or not these engines do better if run at high rpms due to the oiling system. The engine almost starves for oil at low rpms. I am sure that most of rotating parts get thrown in the trash during each rebuild.

Vince, We are inventorying the parts we have for sale and photographing them for the site. I am anxious to publish and will do so hopefully next weekend. It is a part time endeavor, a passione!

24h of use ..thats like 12 track days ? and 100 000$ for a rebuild ..wow thats not a cheap toy..

 

Here a few pics from the one running in Chicagoland. The good doctor tracks it regularly. I remember well the sight of it coming up in my rear view mirror. It didn't stay long there...

Has an amazing sound, not like a car engine, more like a jet engine.

Yes, that's the car, but I don't have a s/n. Ask FChatter Rennmaus, she probably has the s/n.

 

I have done my homework and the Doctor's car is #033 and Benny's is #028.

When I first read that statement, I accepted it immediately as logical. However, last night, after reading Automobile magazine's article on track cars, I read their following article on the Radical sports racer. Then it occurred to me...

With the success of the Stradale and the success Radical is having with their sports racer that's also street legal in the UK... perhaps Ferrari would consider making a $100-150K version of the Radical that adds what's needed to make it street legal in the US. It would be a 333SP-like car... a two-seat sports racer with adjustable suspension that, with the touch of a button, gives you streetable clearance... it would have Challenge Stradale like maintenance (as opposed to $100K rebuilds)... but it would be as light as possible sports racer carrying a bit extra for the street (like lights and crash protection).

Hmmm... oh, if I were only Luca or Jean Todt!

 

After looking at the cockpit shot of the 333sp, I am curious what kind of gearbox these cars use?

Also, it was said in one of the earlier posts that "It is very easy to drive, much easier than most production 12's or 8's". What makes it so easy to drive? From the looks of them, I always thought they would not be overly easy to pilot.

The 333SP gearbox is a sequential gearbox and shifts much like a motorcycle. There is a seperate lever for selecting reverse. As far as easy to drive, the car likes front end caster which makes the steering heavy at low speeds. Need to eat your Wheaties! The Risi team at one time installed a power steering system of their own design in order to run more than 7 degrees caster. Me Tarzan, you Jane!
