These vs threads are kinda fun right? What about the BMW 335xi coupe vs the Audi S5? Price is $10,00 different, but whatever.

I LOVE the S5, it's so sleek and sexy, I'd take it in a second. The E92 is very ugly to me

I don't know what's up with BMW, but honestly I wouldn't pay money for any of their current cars. Pretty much every model they have, there is at least one competitor that I would rather have based on design, price, performance, and features. Just some examples:

    3 series - A4, Cadillac CTS, Infiniti G
5 series - Cadillac STS, Acura RL, Infiniti M
    6 series - C6 Vette, (Infiniti G again), MB CL/CLK, Jag XK
    7 series - Audi A8, Lexus LS
X5 - MB M/G Class, Lexus LX570, Buick Enclave, Acura MDX, GMC Yukon Denali
    X3 - Land Rover LR2, Acura RDX
    Z4 - S2000, Porsche Cayman
M6 - new Viper, Z06, 911 Turbo, spend extra for Maserati GT or AM V8
    M3 - RS4, 2009 CTS-V

    S5!

    Why?

Better interior, and the S5 has some serious street presence. It looks hot! It's got a better stereo, better engine, and a better AWD system. Overall the S5 is the better car!

Bimmers look bland, and their interiors suck!

How do you conclude? I agree on presence, looks, stereo and AWD system. But IMHO the BMW has a much more sophisticated engine. It's straight six is so smooth I wish BMW made ice cream. Pure silk.

I wish Audi's were RWD and had BMW's 50/50 weight philosophy...

True, the BMW is not the default choice anymore. Also, don't forget

    M3 - C63, RS4, CTS-V, GTR, IS-F, Cayman S.

I know Im going to be in the minority, but I would buy the 335. In my opinion it looks alot better then the Audi. The reason the rear of the Audi looks so good is because it is styled like a BMW 3 series.

I bought it over the BMW 335 (S5 wasn't quite out yet).
Audi has a better interior and exterior than the Bimmer, in my opinion, but can't match the lines of the Porsche. Engine, suspension, steering, drivetrain etc. is a whole other ball-game. Love the AWD Audi, but still take my Porsche over it...

There are a lot of cars taking design cues from the 3er. The taillights are almost a dead on ringer.

I'm a huge fan of Audi interior, definitely one of the if not the best in its class. From what I've heard from others though is that the S5's steering is loose and very vague.

What is the price differential between the 335ix and the Audi S5?

I like both cars but prefer the Audi as its quite attractive.

If the new CTS AWD coupe was available I'd choose that over the other two.

Its priced more attractively and I prefer both the looks and the fact its american branded..

Right now if I were chosing? I'd go audi yet both the audi and bmw are winners.

Djui said $10K. I'd say that's a pretty accurate assessment.

I would have thought the difference was closer to 10% more for the audi.

I guess I would have to suggest looking at a more heavily optioned Bimmer vs the lightly loaded Audi S5.

I'd take the lightly loaded S5 over the more heavily optioned Bimmer.. (to compare apples to apples)

Different opinions apparantley. I respect that.

What's the difference between flat six and straight six in American?? I never got it... You have V6 and then you have "straight six" like the ones in the BMW E46 M3... I don't know wth a flat six is. A boxer six run over by a bulldozer?

i have a new gt3 and my son has an 06 s4. other than track driving the s4 is my favorite car. can only imagine what the improved weight distribution and 60/40 awd split do to make it even better.

havent seen the s5 in person yet but i think its in a totally different class from base 3 series. maybe the m3 but thats not awd.

if they ever make rs5 with paddle shifter from the tt, would be ultimate daily driver

Flat six would be a Porsche 911/Boxster/Cayman.

Straight six is an inline six, a la BMW.

The S5 comes loaded, with very few options. The only real options are trim (alum vs carbon fiber vs wood), nav, 550watt stereo, and adaptive headlight/smart key. You could get no options and the S5 is still "loaded." A close friend of mine has the BMW--very nice looking and performing car but it is really a step down from my S5; hands down. Park them side by side; drive them back to back as I have and you'll know what I mean. Case closed.

...oh, and as far as a 911 goes, my father is on his fifth one and I've had a chance to thoroughly enjoy them--they are totally different types of cars compared to the S5 or bmw 3-coupe. Best analogy would be 599 compared to 430.

I have been very interested in the S5 and is probably going to be my next car. I optioned one out with all the bells and whistles minues the carbon fiber trim and it came out to around 55K. And just yesterday I was looking at the 335xi and I optioned that out with all the bells and whistles and it was around 50K. So in my opinion the S5 is worth way more than the 5K you save buying the beemer.

There you go.. I tend not to go for every bell and whistle but if you do and the difference on the two cars is within 10% then the Audi S5 is a fine choice..

    Congratulations on your new car.

    Its a stunning vehicle.
