    Hi,

Just a quick one for someone that knows - are there any differences between the front calipers on a 348 and a 355?
From looking on brake pad manufacturers sites they seem to list the same pad size for both, which goes some way to suggesting the calipers are the same?

    cheers,
    Matt.

Not 100% sure, but I think that they are different, and having checked the part numbers they are different between 348 / 355.

Also think that the following could be different :-

    Piston size
    Physical caliper size
Position of centres for mounting on the stub axle
Although the pads are the same size, the material is different

The other thing is the early 348's had different calipers (Teves) opposed to the later cars which had Brembo calipers.

    Thanks for the info,

Anyone else throw any light on this?

I am interested in any differences between the 348 Brembo calipers and the 355 units.

    thanks,
    Matt.

I would defer to Malcolm as he's actually experienced in this stuff, but FWIW, I've used the same pad in a 348 and in a 355, no problem. It's actually the same size as the Brembo brakes on later 944 Turbos, so pads are CHEAP. I bought a set of nice Performance Friction PFC-97s for US$109/ an anxle. Woo-hoo!

    Hi - thanks for reply...

Just to be more clear though - what I'm really interested in is whether there is any difference in the calipers... know about pads etc. I'm trying to find out for a colleague whether there is any difference as I have a pair of brand new 355 front calipers and he wants to know if any point fitting these to his 348.... as far as I can tell/know they look the same to me ??? .. and like you said Dennis they look the same to me as 944 turbo, 928s4 and 968 (non M030(sports option)) calipers.

    thanks,
    Matt.

p.s Anyone in the UK interested in these 355 front calipers? There aren't brand brand new (i.e not 'boxed') but virtually. Taken off new car straight away..prob for an upgrade or something..

correction to my post above: 928s4 brakes were bigger at the front.... but same calipers as 348/355(?) at back.

Don't want to de-thread your thread, but can someone post the piston sizes in the rear 355 caliper.

    Phillip,

Found some old notes and it says 36mm / 40mm, so I guess it has two different size pistons with the leading being the larger size. I can confirm this on Monday

Last price we had was £254.00 each

I owned both a 348ts and presently a F355 Spider.Brakes are the same.I use Metal Matrix pads from Stillen, which carries the same part no. as Porshe 996.Rotors are interchangeble also.Used 355 Challenge drilled rotors on my 348ts which are made by Brembo and can be purchased through Stillen under their Sport Rotors logo.Alot less the factory OEM Challange rotors from the dealer. (www.stillen.com) they are located in Costa Mesa,Ca.

    Cal355,

    Thanks for the reply!

Just to be clear - I presume you mean the 355 and 348 rotors are interchangeable rather than 348/355 and 996 rotors?

Just thought I'd check as would be very handy if 996 rotors are the same as I know somewhere that I can get them very cheaply!

    cheers :)

Anyone know if there is a rebuild kit (seals, dust boots) or source for the Ate calipers?

Yes,correction rotors are exchangeable between 355/348,not Porshe. The pads are the same though, even the brake sensors fit.

Wait a second... I guess now I need some clarification. You're not saying the brake pads are the same between the 355 and the 996, are you? I have both, and the pads are certainly different....
