I am cleaning up a garage I have purchased (I am opening a service shop there) and I have discovered a 348 or 355 Targa roof panel. Does anyone know if these are compatible or how to tell which one it is? I would like to know before I put it on ebay...or if anyone here is interested, I would be happy to discuss.

    Thanks,
    TCab

I'm 90% sure they are the same on the 348 & 355, if its matte black ''textured'' plastic, its from a 348. I believe most of the 355 GTS's came with color-matched painted tops.

Color matched became an option in 1998. Not before. Though they may interchange, I believe the interior treatment is different between 348 and 355. Daniel at Ricambi would be the best source of info on this.

I just checked some other threads, they do NOT interchange, the primary differences (according to Daniel) is the latches, which are VERY expensive ($1000 each).

Posting some pictures ought to get you the answer on fitiment pretty quickly. ;)

Even to take it one step further, it has the optional leather insert std. was cloth.

ok, I took these pics (very dark) and did a gamma correction on them so I could see detail...
I seriously don't think its a 348 top, but I would LOVE to have those inserts for mine!!!!!
I did a very close inspection versus MY 348 top and the differences are as follows...

    1. the guide pins on mine are very different. Mine don't have that larger round area near the base,
just a hex that isn't much larger than the diameter of the pins themselves.

    2. there are no rain-rails or weather strip moulding on this top, mine has both.
The mounting plate for the weather strip is pop-riveted to the plastic from the factory, this top
doesn't have that at all, and no evidence that there ever was anything attached.

The latches however are identical to mine... at least in basic appearance.
Without the moulding though, I don't see how it could be used on EITHER a 348 or 355!

Did Ferrari make any targa cars during the 80's with full-framed door windows? it seems like a stupid idea and kindof defeats the purpose... but, it would make more sense that this top is for that car. How could an exposed window glass seal against hard plastic?

Check out pieces #19,20,21, & 30 those pieces are missing from this top on both sides...

It is a 348 roof, but the rain rails could have been removed for r/r. They leak horribly (at least on my car). That roof is worth some good money! Don't 'give' it away on ebay.

Daniel, upon close inspection, there are no holes where the moulding attachment strip would have been riveted.
There is also the possibility that this top is new, and those pieces are expected to be attached by the dealer, repair shop etc.
Either way, this top is useless without those pieces! You think your top leaks now? try taking the weather stripping OFF! lol

MondialTCab, if you advertise this for sale anywhere, you'll want to point out the absense of those pieces, or you'll certainly end up with a very pissed off buyer on your hands! Those several peices are very expensive combined. I promise you that the average ''rich dummy'' Ferrari owner will not notice those pieces are missing from the pics!

My preference would be to get rid of it here to a 348 owner that knows the history of how I came to get it and also knows exactly what they are getting. If there is someone looking to have an extra so they can paint one and keep another, let me know. And since I have no idea how much it is worth, make me a reasonable offer and it is yours. I have purchased enough Mondial T parts made from unobtainium" to know that somebody probably wants a spare to keep around and I would be happy to make sure they get it.

Thanks again for all the replies folks!
