Can't say at the moment as it's a secret. Once I have it in minds I'll post it up. As for noise, I have no idea. In fact, I'm not actually sure if the whole project will actually work.
Just be careful Sy... you still want your 348 to sound like a 348 after the swap. Keep us posted. All the best, Andrew.
Have no idea what the sound will be like. It's a hybrid made up of two engines. Personally, I hope it's a bit quieter than it is now. Think I'm getting a bit old.
actually the new breed of maser motors are based of the the 430 rather than the 360. on the "sound"....although they share a common block and various other components the sound of the 4.2 motor will sound very different from the 430 due to the 90crank used in the maser vs the flat cranks of the ferrari's. the maser will have a "american rumble" off idle while the 430 will sound like 2 screaming 4 bangers. i would love to see some do a 4.2 motor swap also. regards
+1 ........... the 360 motor is identical to the 355 motor but for the variable intake manifold, variable exhaust cam pulley and 2mm larger stroke to get the displacement up to 3.6. Interesting ......... I though all italian v8s used the flat plane crank ....
goth your correct 348,355,360= same family 430, alfa 8C, and all newer maser v8's= same family but only the F430 has a flat crank. from what i recall, the vast majority of italian v8's other than the ferrari's arent 180 degree cranks. jalpa, bora, lancia 8.32, alfa montreal etc... are conventional 90 degrees like most v8. thats what makes the F-car v8's alittle more magical to me. but still the new maser motors sound fantastic off idle for city driving. cheers hf
True the 'flat plane' sound is fantastic ........... but I don't think the 348 engine is in the exact same family as the 355/360/CS engine ........ other than the flat plane v8 part ........ its valves/heads/block configuration comes from the 328/mondial ............... where the 5-valved engine developed for the 355 was carried into the 360 and the CS .........
where are you getting that information? 308 has no relation to 348 355/360 and 348 block are the same.... but nearly everything else is different on the later 5valve motors.
oops ....... I do like the 348 ......... especially when modded ...... I thought I said 328 ....... the single cam drive pulley are the biggest reason I can think of why the 348/mondial block are different from the 355/360. The 355 block bolt right up to 360/CS heads and vice versa ...... because the 355/360/CS use the same castings for both the head and the block . All three of the 355/360/CS use the same dual cam belt drive and the same 5-valve heads ..... the 348 has 4-valve heads and single cam drive block . It is not bad or good just different ......
im fairly positive the 348 and 328/308 motors are completely different. the reason i gather the 348 and 355 share the same block is that the transmission bolt pattern are the same. yes nearly everything else is different including the heads and cam drives of course. you cant really use directly interchange the trannies because the 348 uses cables and the 355 is rod type links and the ancillaries (alternator, ac compressors, water pumps) are located in different positions blocking the shift linkage shaft to the tranny. however, i have no personal experience on this just conjecture. can anyone else chime in on this to help clarify? cheers hf
You are correct the 348 gearbox interface is the same or very similar to the 355 ..... but probably not more than that .......... my guess is the 348 block is a very distant adopted redheaded 'stepchild' .................... and with all those 348 problems I have been reading about on here ........... I am sure glad I bought a 355 ...... ..............
