    348ers,

A new enigm. After properly dismounting the AC control unit, cleaning all contacts and applying Stabilant 22A (thanks to Daniel), the following happens:

    - On starting the car, AC works just fine.
    - After a few minutes, and hitting a few potholes in the cobbled streets of Paris, the blower gets crazy, the E7 code appears and the controls go dead. -- A gentle tap on the side of the central console switches the blower on and off.

Loose connection is the obvious culprit but what bugs me is that I did stabilant the AC unit, so it must be somewhere else. Of course, when I switch the car off, everything works fine again for 2 minutes and then E7 / frantic blower.

I should probably clean and Stabilant the blower connections but I don't know where to find them.

    Any advice?

    Thanks,

    Louis

NB I did search previous threads, in particular the following
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23470&highlight=e7
but I don't think I have a 30A fuse issue as the AC works from time to time. A fuse wouldn't work intermitently, would it? ;-)

I would do the 30amp fuse fix just to make sure that it's part of the problem. Also check the condition of the relay just about the fuses. You can see a picture of them from the link in the thread you found.:

If they start to go bad it can cause your fan to act goofy. So check them out.

Also a big thumbs up for using the search button.

Many thanks for the tips. Any hints on how to remove the trunk carpet properly?

Also, I find it really strange that tapping the AC control unit on the side turns the blower (which sits under the trunk) on and off, which means that the poor connection lies within or close to the AC control unit, which I just cleaned/stabilanted, rather than with the blower control unit. May be there is some other connection that could go bad between the two...

Anyway, I'll stabilant the fan blower connections once I find them out and see how it goes. How do you check the relays condition?

I hope I won't need to replace the unit.

    Again, thanks for the help.

    Louis

Removing the trunk carpet is just a series of phillps screws along the black metal horizontal bar and on the near-rectangular/oblong black fan cover on top of the carpet.

As for bad connections, I'd check the 6 or so common ground crimp pins that are just behind the far left plastic fan vent in the cockpit. Can't hurt to Stabilant 22a those pins (that fixed my E8 problem).

That fan vent is easy to remove...just use a flatblade screwdriver to pull down the tab...here's Miltonian's picture of doing just that very thing:

Look to see that there are no signs of over heating. Like if the plastic looks discolored as if it was burned around the bottom.

    OK, thanks.

I'm currently looking at the workshop manual, Section I (AC). Have located the "Power module for fan control" / "Fan speed control unit" section. It has 6 connection pins, one of which receives data from the AC control unit inside the cockpit. I need to clan stabilant all 6 pins, once I get there.

I should also take care of the cockpit temp sensor as you suggested. I should have done it when I replaced the vents... I replaced them (thanks Daniel again) after sun exposure shattered them...

I will also check the 30A fuse and holder.

I plan to do all this on Sunday. I'll take pics and report back.

    This forum amazes me.

That's cool. The next time that I'm in France you'll have to drive by in your 348 and wave like you know me so that I can make some sort of snazzy comment to my wife about the 348 Brotherhood.

E1 - Passenger compartment temperature sensor - My E1 problem was solved when I worked Stabalant into the ground connections on the left front bulkhead behind the a/c outlet on the dash. *thanks, Markie1949

See the instructions and picture above for removing the fan vent to access those ground connections to fix your E1 problem (one hopes). Replace the sensor, otherwise.

    As for your E5 error:

E5 - Motor for heater valve control

Also, remember that the 348 has a digital diagnostic mode built in to our A/C-Heater ECU.

    Go to this link: http://webpages.charter.net/aircover/348/1994Ferrari348Spider.html#AirConditioning

Then scroll down to the diagnostic section.

For sure, and the reverse works as well, I can pretend that I have 348 bros from the West Coast to the East Coast of the US... ; )

Henkie, I hope my tentatives help you out although error codes are different.

I'm getting pretty good at dismantling the AC control unit... Probably done it about ten times over the past six months. My current time for undoing, disconnecting the unit when it becomes too f*****g annoying, and redoing is about 5 minutes, no bragging...

    just a little note:

make sure you have installed the gold colored relay with a protection diode built in for the a/c condenser fan. If the relay is the standard type, It will cause erriors with the a/c control. the relay is under the front bonnet in the fuse box corner slot. If you look on the relay it should have a working diagram which should show a diode symbol. If you have a standard relay, that is most likely your problem.

    regards, Jim
