Went to start my 1990 348ts today after neglecting it for about 7 weeks due to work commitments and getting married in St Lucia.

I put it on charge for a couple of hours while I was pottering around our new house and then started it up and all was well so I put the heater on to air the car but the fan only ran for 10-15 seconds before there was a solenoid type click from the dash/under bonnet area and the fan cut out which left the temp panel/fan speed panels blank.

Tried again but same result - is this to be expected after being flat or do I need to start checking deeper? - any advice appreciated before I take it to my F-specialist.

    Pete

Check your fuses in the kick panel and under the hood. I think you have blown a fuse by the sounds of that. :)

You need to check the famous "hidden fuse" under the lining in the front trunk. It's NOT in either of the fuse panels, it's on the side of the fresh air inlet box. Sometimes you can get the system to reset just by pulling out the fuse and plugging it back in, sometimes the fuse is OK but the fuse holder is melted due to high resistance. There are many threads here about checking the fuse and installing a better fuseholder.

Might also mention that it's possible that the "solenoid type click" you heard was the servo motor for the fresh air recirculation flap. You may have a broken linkage piece in there, it's pretty common. It's something you can fix yourself with minimal mechanical skills and tools.

This can be also said for the plug in the back of the control panel. Mine stopped working, and while searching the archives for more info, I saw another fchatter unplugged his, re-plugged and it worked. I did the same and it fixed mine. I passed the same info onto dean348 (I think by memory) and his started working again also by unplugging and re-plugging the a/c control unit back in. :)
