Hi, just had my 93' 348s ac serviced. I am told that the blower/cooling coils etc in the europian cars are diff verses those used in the US spec cars. Since mine is a uk car, I understand that the cooling coil and blower is less efficient owing to diff. climatic conditions to the US. Does this make sense???

Does not make sense. Should be no difference in perrformance.

    Nope.

They probably only know to add freon. Some A/C shops don't know to evacuate the system, change the receiver/dryer, and charge with new freon.

If you've got some moisture in the cooling lines, then you aren't going to have very cold air.

Also, if your system has been converted from freon (R12) over to the more "green" r134a, then your shop probably doesn't know that your system is charge sensitive...which is different from freon (look in sight glass to see when charged). R134a takes a guage tool to determine when it is charged.

So your shop is giving you a line of "Euro cars have less efficient cooling systems."

    Nope. Same system.

Yup, if the manifold gauges register a VACUUM on the low side when the A/C compressor comes on, that's the culprit.

That's exactly what happened to my Mondial t Coupe.

Drier dessicant bag exploded (from system being undercharged and essentially empty for years) and contaminated the system from the outlet of the drier to the filter screen at the expansion valve.

Tom Jones gives us a good hint how to fix it without taking it all apart.

Thanks. Thought as much. F cars are not typically that costomised to climatic conditions. At best they change the side of the steering wheel!!

yep No Doubt is spot on. Charge volume is critical. I had my 928 changed to R134a about 6 years ago. My aircon friend who did it said volume was super critical to eficiency. The aircon (crap in a 928) worked better after the change. Also, my 348 is a 94 UK spec car. The aircon can snap freeze peas in 40 degee Hong Kong traffic jams. If yours dosn't, it's broken. mike D.
