Has anyone got any ideas? I have '94 348 spider that the air conditioner just quit working, it's blowing the hidden fuse under the trunk liner, I changed to a heavy duty fuse holder and 30 amp fuse as the other was melted but that didn't help, with a new fuse in the heater works and fan motor works fine but as sone as I touch the a/c button it still blows the fuse, also in the fuse area in the trunk is the relays for the a/c, that one looks new compared to the others, so this must have been a problem before?

A 30amp fuse is pretty stout, it won't blow because of something minor. I wonder if maybe the fan for the condenser is stuck? You would need to remove the cover panel in the right front wheel well to get access to it, but it might be worth checking. I'd also check to see if the recirculation flap is stuck, but I would think it would bust the linkage piece or strip the servo before it blew the fuse.

Next best guess from me would be that there is a screw somewhere that has been driven into the harness for the A/C, and it's touching a main wire. Maybe you have an amplifier, or an alarm system, or somesuch, that is mounted with screws in the front trunk?

I suppose you could also try unplugging the wiring connector from the heater control valve and the heater water pump, and see if that makes a difference.

Good luck, hope it's something simple!

Your compressor clutch may be bad or the line feeding that clutch may be shorting somewhere.

Look at the compressor and try to follow the line.

Thanks, I'll have to pull the front wheel and liner and check there and do the same in the rear to see the air compresser wire, it does act like a grounding out problem as it does it as soon as I touch the button, thanks again for some ideas.

Hi Brian - I agree, best to start with tracing wires and checking connections. Good Luck!
