I know this is a common issue where some days it works and some days it doesn't.

I removed mine to refinish the internal plastic trim. Unfortunately now it isn't working at all. I'ts got me thinking that if none of it is working it may be down to power supply or earth cabling.

If it is power supply it could be fuse or relay or cable. I can't find either a fuse or relay to support this bit of kit. Any ideas?

Also can anyone recommend where I could have the switch control panel refurbished?

    Thanks,

The fuse for the climate control system is located under the lining of the front trunk, next to the air intake box. It's a green 30 amp fuse, and they are known for overheating and melting the fuse holder. This CAN be the cause of your problem if it makes intermittant contact, and there is a good tech letter about improving the system with an upgraded fuse holder.

You'll also want to make sure that the harness is properly plugged in to the back of the climate control ECU, and that the connection pins are clean and undamaged.

    Hi Jeff,

Completely unrelated to the thread but I didn't have an email for you to send this pic of the rear/side window ducts.

As advised the 30A fuse looks exactly the same as in the photos others have posted. However I've put a meter on the cables in & out and the circuit is working (I will be replacing this tomorrow though for a modern gold plated fuse & holder). As they were close I've also tested both of the relays for the electromagnetic clutch and for the evapourator motor and they are operating correctly.

I now think I need to look at the ground connections to all of the AC kit. Predominantly though I feel it must be a main supply or earth cable/connection to the main ECU in car controller.

If it were small cabling to small AC components then only that piece of kit would not work. Therefore it must be the controller??? Or am I being silly in assuming this?

I have replaced the fuse for a gold plated Autoleads unit with 30A glass fuse.

I've measured voltage on the connector block that connects to the back of the AC/clock controller. The brown permanent feed from the relays/30A fuse was measured at 12.07Volts, there is also a red cable that is next to/below it and when I check continuity it went to ground/earth. However when I turn the ignition on, the same cable goes to 12.07 volts. This seems very strange to me. I'm guessing it should be a switched supply but has grounded somewhere.

Does anyone have a coloured or referenced wiring diagram? I have a poor quality black and white but it is of no use!

    Thanks,
    David

    Just and update:

Yesterday I bought some contact cleaner (Servisol Super 10 from Maplin) and it has worked a treat! AC unit now working again!

Anyone with AC issues really should look at replacing that 30A fuse and treat all of the connections (including relays) as the first step in diagnosing the issue!
