After searching the archives I haven't seen anyone address the problem I'm having with my a/c. I was getting the E1 code on my a/c panel intermittently, seemed to come on when I went over a bump in the road. It would reset somtimes by itself, and the a/c works fine when the code is not displayed. I pulled the panel and didn't like the ease with which I could remove the electrical plug to it. I just tried the Stabilant 22a? and now I get a steady E1 code, and no a/c at all. Anyone know where I should look next. E1 is supposed to be the cabin temp sensor. Is that mounted behind the perforations on the lower driver dash?. I'd love some suggestions before I start tearing things apart. Thanks.

Please try the "turn the battery off" trick before doing anything.

I will search the archives for my post regarding this issue.

You've gotten great responses to your question/dilemma. However, there are *other* things that can also cause A/C code errors. One big thing is electrolysis in your radiator...which can affect your 348's ground points' ability to deliver a workable ground. Without a good ground, digital electronics intermitently have problems telling 1's from 0's, among other things. Analog devices such as power window motors will start to slow down as the ground becomes bad, too...sometimes due to the decreasing voltage potential between positive and ground.

So flush and fill your radiator at least once per year. It also helps to place a $12 zinc anode inside your 348's radiator fill cap (see www.jcwhitney.com). That zinc anode delays the onset of electrolysis.

I think I posted in the wrong area, but thanks so much, you guys are fantastic, I'll try the battery trick first, but I'm leaning towards the corrosion, as the problem was intermittent until the Stabalant 22a treatment. I'll be home tomorrow and will post the results. Thanks again.

Well, no luck, I switched off the battery, removed the control panel and worked it over for corrosion[none found] dosed it with Stabalant, and still get the E1 error. Everything functions, but with a mind of it's own. A/C will cycle on then off, Heat will cycle on then off. Acts as though it isin't getting a signal from the cabin temp sensor. If no one has a better idea, I'm going after the sensor next, perhaps it's come undone or it's connection is corroded, I hope!!

    Flush and re-fill your radiator.

I'm not sure why that would help, but I flushed the system just prior to this.

Problem solved! I started to remove the instrument cluster binnacle and found a bunch of grounds attached to a metal strip which was bolted to the forward bulkhead behind it and to the left. Wiggling the grounds, some of which looked like they went towards the cabin temp sensor made the A/C error code dissappear, and now the a/c and heat work fine!!!

I saw in another thread while I was researching my problem, someone's a/c not cooling very well and the problem being a broken flapper valve in the a/c heater box for the recirc air. Low and behold, mine was broken too. So I pull the top trunk liner to access the actuator motor, and as I am doing it I remove a fire extinguisher mount that the P.O. must have installed. It's positioned just above the tool kit. As I unscrew the second mounting screw, coolant starts peeing out the hole!!! WTFO!! Turns out they had accidently screwed the mount into one of the heater hoses!! If I hadn't had the original a/c problem I probably wouldn't have discovered the coolant hose problem until August in the middle of Death Valley !!! Ferrari's work in mysterious ways.

Here is the thread that I used from the archives to fix the recirculation flap. I bought the new brass piece from Hill Eng.(a sponsor on this site). It works great and the flap is working again. Great pics in this thread.

Thanks for the link, I already "temp" fixed it with a screw thru it's center and a little epoxy, but I'm thinking Mr. Hill and I are going to do some business, he's got some other items I want as well.
