It really doesn't unless you are trying to balance the car. The battery was moved to the front the help with weight distribution.

What I don't get is why they didn't just put it in the trunk.

We're looking at buying one with the battery in the rear, and a chap said keep away from them? but i thought a 92' 348 would be ok!!!

Firstly, what experience does this chap have?? I guess he's read the I Spy book of 348s......usual bollox

The battery was placed in the front following feedback on handling, amongst other things.

Essentially its better weight distribution, just in case you're cornering at 170mph+. It'll also keep the nose closer to the floor - well that's obvious. He'll also tell you not to touch a TS or TB and only buy a GTS, GTB or Spider.

Buying a 348 has nothing to do with where the battery's located. My mate recently bought a 348TS with the Battery in the front! He had a 92 car, but that was the only mod - does it make his a better car ?- absolutely not.

It's always useful to get advice before buying a 348, and i guess this is what Fchat's all about. Let us know the model, where its from, age etc, you never know, we may even know the car or dealer and can give you better advice than the stupid battery comment.

Ian - am I right in thinking you're looking at the gorgeous blue ts at Nick's? All I will say is that Nick's a great guy. I purchased my TS from Nick 15 months ago. He only stocks good cars, and that blue motor looks superb.

    Ian,

As with all cars the 348 was continuously developed during its life and most of the little faults of the early cars were put right on the later cars. When most people talk of a 'front battery' car they generally use this as a benchmark between the earlier and later cars. The general opinion is that the later cars are better as the engines, ecu and suspension were all 'developed and improved' over the cars life. (I am biased because I own a later car). On the down side there were very few RHD 'front battery' cars made and these are at a premium.

However this is only a basic rule of thumb and things like mileage, condition and history are all as important. A good rear battery car is a much better ownership proposition than a bad front battery car.

I cannot understand how a 10kg battery can make that much difference to the handling on a heavy road car! I suspect that Ferrari moved it for another reason, possibly the heat from the engine/exhaust cooking the battery?

    Good Luck

    Julian

Yes we went to look at Nicks blue one, but the car has had quite a few owners (13 !!) and was not in very good condition inside, shame really. but even if we got past that the wife did'nt like the colour, so we're back to looking for a red one!!

Dale, is that a show car? I have never seen an engine bay that clean before! You can see every detail of every component. Has that engine bay EVER been dirty?
