Yep, it is official, I have virtually no mechanical abilities. On Saturday I checked the battery on/off switch as mentioned here in the trunk and it was on. I then proceeded to break out the lug nut wrench and floor jack to remove the tire to gain access to the battery. I loosened the lug nuts and then tried to move the jack into place. To my suprise the jack was to large and would not fit under the car. With no other options I was about to dial the tow truck when I decided to check the engine compartment again. I checked where I had been hooking up the battery charger and cables. Well inside the lid marked with the + sign there are 3 nuts and the + on the cover lines up over the middle nut. Well as you have already probably gathered I was not hooking up the charger and cables to the middle nut, thus no current was making it to the system. As soon as I hoooked the charger to the middle nut I heard all sorts of electrical things happening. I left the charger on for a few mintues and then she fired up ASAP. I checked everything else out as she warmed up and then I took her out for a 3 hour run. The long winter wait is officially over and damn did it feel good to be behind the wheel again! Thanks again for the help guys. If it were not for you guys saying try to fix it yourself, I would have wasted a couple hundred $ on a tow truck and dealer service. Yes, I now have the battery tender hooked up. Thanks again for the help, this is whay I love FChat.

Don't forget to tighten your lug nuts back up.

Now I know what that vibration and shaking was. Just kidding, that is one mistake I knew not to make.

Craig, if your battery is dead or has a bad cell it may not keep a charge, and it may be overworking your alternator. if you want, get a multimeter ( a walmart one will do ) and i can tell you by post or pm how to check your voltage at the battery ( cold, and not running, running, and off / fully charged ) and how to check and make sure your alternator is doing its job. enjoy your drive, Michael .

Nice to hear you sorted it for free. If you do need to get that jack under at some point, just push it up onto a piece of wood (or similar) first.

And don't forget that the wheels get 72 foot-pounds of torque--no more, and no less.

FWIW, I just bought a 2 ton jack at Sears that will go down to 3 3/4" and it is awesome! Very high quality, easy to use but a bit pricey ($179).

The (standard) jack doesn't fit under the car???? How stupid is that?

Another hint; if the jack is *close* to fitting under the car, but you just need that extra half-inch of room . . . just lift the car up with your sheer, brute, masculine strength. The sticktion in the suspension will keep the car raised enough to slide the jack under it.

    vty,
