Gentlemen, I am looking into buying a 348 and found this one. Please take a look at it and any comments will be appreciated. In addition, please let me know what questions I should ask when I go look at it. PS. It says 348 Speciale. What is the "Speciale" part of it? Thanks. http://chicago-motor-cars.ebizautos.com/detail.aspx?iid=1124465

Mileage is around 22K. That would be great if you could meet me there sometime later this week to check it. I will be out of town till Wednesday, but after that I'll be here. Are you experienced in knowing what to ask, how to check it, what to look for etc...? I was always a Porsche owner and decided to go for the gorgious F! What is the "Speciale" part in this one's name? My private email is [email protected] Email me your contact info. Thanks a lot, Dean
1- Does anyone know if a 348 "Speciale" is different from other 348s? 2- Also, if you notice in one of the pictures that show the seats (the one that exposes the driver's seat from the right side) you will easily notice that the back part of the seat is detached from the seat. Is that something hard to fix, could be fixed, or needs a new part? Thanks
i know one thing , from the pics it has been repainted.. look at the picture of the jamb with the tire spec label. notice the paint pile up where they taped it off before painting... jamb painted? thats usually only painted if body work was done in that area.... gummy center console parts too.the tires have been well oiled though
The 'Speciale' has different paint work (colr matched front spoiler, lower panels, rear lid), different seats possible, limited production. The space around the lower seat cushion you are referring to is common on many 348 built after 1990. The 1989 and some of the 1990 cars had a different style seat with the bottom cushion stitched to the side bolsters so they cannot separate. I doubt there is an easy fix, but you could always get new leather covers down the road. The seats look very good to me in the pictures. If I was going to do it over, I would look specifically for a 'Serie Speciale', although I have really enjoyed my 348 ts 'normale' BT BT
Speciale is "Serie Speciale" or SS. There were 100 made in '93 and 15 in '94. There should be a plaque on the right side inner door frame designating this with X# of 100. The 348 SS came with the front spoiler splitter, 1 in. wider rear track and as an option carbon fiber seats (not on this model). It also had an upgraded cpu 2.7, and single can exhaust good for 312 hp vs. '92 348's 300 hp. It was also the first year for color coded bottom valence and rear deck lid, hence the SS paint job. On the SS model the rear tail light grill was removed. I think probably a few were sold late '92. The seat has just pulled off. It's a couple sheet metal screws. Easy fix.
