Guy's How many shim's go on each caliper bolt? Is there a correct set up for this, front and rear? I seem to have two extra shims after putting the calipers back on the car.
I took off the front and rear calipers, BOTH. I forgot the exact set up on which side and how many shims go on each bolt. What does the factory book say?
I have never pulled mine apart. But................. at a wild guess. There is one under each bolt head brother. You will have to see which ones you left off. Simple as that.
I don't know about a 348, because I don't have one in front of me right now, but on the earlier cars, there are flat steel shims that go between the caliper ears and the upright to "center" the caliper to the rotor. There is the normal split washer and a flat washer under the head of the mounting bolt that is for the caliper fixing, but there is also (in the Ferrari parts book for the 308 QV, Tav 30, number .3) this flat steel shim, available between .2 and 1.0mm thick, listed by Ferrari as "possible fitting." In the post below, number 10 is the spacing shim. I've often seen several shims in place. They drop out if you're not looking for them when you take the caliper loose. I normally put them back on as they came off. If not, I "center" the caliper block side clearances to the rotor by altering the thickness of the shims... -Peter
There are washers and there are shims. Which ones are you talking about? Washers go under the bolt head, shims go under the caliper to center it on the brake rotors and come in varying thickness. See picture, where 2 & 3 are washers, 10 is shim Image Unavailable, Please Login
Normaly a shim is messured out on the individual point and then choosed. So you have to messure out with what size of shim your caliper is back in the center position of the brake disc. Just messure both sides on an symetrical parallel surface of the caliper to the brake disc if both messures are the same its ok ______________________ Samy
