Interested in hearing from anyone who has replaced the CAT's with a straight pipe assembly... If so, what is inolved...what is the benefit?
I replaced the cats on my Mondial t (348 drivetrain/engine) with Tubi straight pipes. Usual plusses and minusses. Plus: Seems to rev quicker, sounds a bit better given less restriction...and I think lowers the risk of engine fires (in the hot cats). Minus: Garage smells a bit more than it did, but I dont mind it.
it's this Cat-Crap (fires, warning lights, engine shutdown etc) which steered me to an '89 Pre-Cat. Life's too short..
I had a client put them on and take them off. Too noisy in his opinion.........and a bad gas smell in garage. I thought it was OK, the sound was unreal and spine tingling, the gas smell was not an issue for me........it all comes down to your tolerances. I would have left them on.
