If you buy decent quality pipes they will have the correct fittings for both the oxy sensor and thermocouple, so all looks good and functions as standard. The thermocouples won't actually do anything (as there are no cats to overheat..), but at least they are still there for if you go back to original.

If your car was registered after July 92' you may have to put the cats back on for the MOT, so keep them handy.

As Chris has already said you need to ensure that your pipes have the ports for the oxygen sensor's (posh thermo couple) as they do perform a function within the whole ECU Injection system.
You can delete them, however your cars ecu will trigger either a fault code or a default value.....either way you'll end up loosing more than you gain by getting rid of them!

the nicest ones we've fitted have been from Tubistyle (look in the sponsors section for details) not to expensive and very well made.

If you've already bought a set without the opening you should be able to get any specialist or engineering shop to fit them (after all its just a hole with a threaded nut over it!)

PS please could you fill in a few of your profile detials, we could recomemend a few people close to you if we knew where you were in the country, doesnt have to be super detailed, a first name and county would be nice

    Sorry to threadjack but..

For sound purposes only, would I get much from going for a Cat replacement pipe without the Tubi rear box? I ask because I got a pretty nice change in exhaust note doing this on previous cars. Has anyone gone for this change without going the whole hog? What was the outcome?

    Cheers,
    Neil

Neil, Yes you will get a change in tone and it will be a louder, personaly I'd go for the back box before the cats (after all you can always hollow the cats out ;) )

Thanks everyone - as you say it's probably a quality issue - the pipes I've seen have the lambda probe fitting but not the thermocouple. I have a challenge motor in an early car so don't actually need the cats and was hoping to lose the cat ecu's as I get an intermittent fault with the warning lights showing but going off before I get a chance to investigate.

OK I've gone for the TUBI ones , they're about £100 more than the CSC pipes sold by Gazzella Racing which look nice but don't have a thermocouple flange.
I will do a decibel test to see if it gets any louder.
