Hello experts, I’m wondering if anyone here can identify this type of CAT on a 348 that I’m considering? It does not appear to be stock to me. Is it a high flow variant or perhaps even a test pipe? I will need to emissions test the car, so any info would help. Unfortunately the current owner has no knowledge on the subject. Thanks for any assistance..Steve Image Unavailable, Please Login

A test pipe wouldn’t bulge that much unless someone wanted it to pass a visual inspection. In my experience hi-flow cats aren’t always branded. You’ll probably never know. If it’s hollowed out you should be able to tell by the volume of the exhaust (sound, not flow)

I do not know. Bought them used a few+ years ago and now they just sit. Will start a 348 garage sale ad when I get motivated

Fjb, it sure does look almost identical. That’s a concern if it’s indeed a test pipe. I know the car trips 5-8 CEL lights fairly regularly. No performance issues, but it does point to it possibly being just a cat look alike.

You really should be able to tell by the sound. Cats muffle a lot of sound. Look up videos of stock 348 exhaust and compare to your car.

The 348 never tripped a light and I used them and a challenge exhaust for 30K+ street miles over 5+ years, I think there is an O2 upstream and a t/c in the backend. It doesn't care there is not "CAT". But I could be wrong

look like high flow cats to me. test pipes are mostly same size dia as the rest of the exhaust pipe.

loads of people make them, so might just be non branded.

high flow cats didnt muffle much if anything on mine when i replaced the test pipes for high flows.

get it tested and see what happens!

Thanks for all the info so far. The car is a project, but I’d hate to have to throw new cats on it right out of the gates. I can’t imagine it would pass strict California tests with out cats.
