My RH side cat is banging/knocking away, seems to be temperature dependent worse when cold and ticking over. It is original, UK car 1991 ts. What are my options, replace with standard, gut it, or bypass? What about the O2 sensor and temperature sensor, these were replaced a couple of years ago.
Call me crazy, but I love the look of the OEM cats. And really dislike the polished alternatives. Fabspeed used to re-core the OEM units but I don't think they do anymore. Image Unavailable, Please Login
O2 sensor is needed, but you can do without the temp sensor. Can you use test pipes over there? I bought mine from Eurospares (not installed yet).. Great price too. https://www.eurospares.co.uk/tubi-exhausts/1/348 TB/348 Spider
I can use test pipes as it's pre '92 as long as it passes the test ,CO<=3.5%, HC<=1200ppm. I think lol
I've heard people say that their cats melted internally and caused some clanking sounds. Not sure if it's the same as banging and knocking. Maybe someone can offer a better way to inspect other than fully removing the cat, or another explanation.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Update, it's fair to say my Cats had seen better days! Starting to break up, and steel wool like material on the exit side being expelled. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Laws in the UK have changed now to, if your car originally had a cat it must have one now, so have purchased sports cats. I do have a question re the O2 sensors, although the car runs well they are different, I assumed they would be the same. RHS is a Bosch LSH 6, and LHS is a NTK OZA527-E4 . Will this cause any issues, or good to leave as is? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Makes sense to replace both, especially since you have them out already, and they're not expensive. Go here and scroll down for more info. http://www.my348.com/
Hi, I had the same issue with one of the 348 cats in 2012. Burned one catalic converter by warmingup the engine with 1000rpm. I ordered 2 new sport cats (metal core instead of ceramic) that are produced by http://www.bmcatalysts.co.uk/ The partnumber is BM60813. Just contact the manufactur ask if they can produce a pair for you. Including temparature sensor modification which I provided to them back in 2012. FYI the partnumber is removed from their website). Total cost for two. 300 GBP. Cheap!! And good. They work realy well particular revs above 4000rpm You can find those also on ebay Rob
