My 90 348TS had not cats just straight through pipes. My 94 348 spider has cats. Can I take them off and replace with straight pipes. What will the changes to the noise, power and response be?
    Thanks

Yes. Little more noise at idle and lot more noise at high revs. Engine bay will be a lot cooler. HP gains will be small (~5% improvement max).

Yes you can do it. It is a beautiful thing too. The sound is wonderful!!!! The smell of the exhaust is a little strong when sitting still but not too bad. The best $50 I have spent on our car.

I took my cats off my 92 ts and noticed a great increase in sound. A lot of 348 owners have commented how my car sounds so much better and louder than theirs. A lot of them are running Tubi with Hyper Flows.

I am not sure if it is physcological but I noticed and increase in throttle response and also the car seemed to be slightly quicker in 2nd and 3rd gear.

Straight though pipes will allow your engine to breathe and so it keeps the engine temp down slightly. In my book that can only be a good thing. I also have a K&N air filter and so I get a nice popping sound at lift off and down shift. I also get small flames out the back occassionally.

Thanks for the advice. What do you do about the sensors and the leads that attach to the sensors in the cats when you changed to the straight pipes?

Straight pipes for the 348 will still need the threaded bung for the O2 sensors. The car will run without the temp sensors, but you will be eliminating a safety feature. Most of the aftermarket 348 straight pipes I have seen are threaded for both the O2 and temp sensor.
