as some of you know, i've purchased the car a few months ago, after getting some valuable info on this car here on F-Chat... after an engine-out service i set off to Switzerland (road legal !) to meet up with its first driver Jean Gay, who took part in some Challenge races in Italy '93 and was third overall in the European Series in '95.
he was kind enough to spend a Saturday with me, going through his albums and records, sharing stories... so more updates and images of the car to come...
attached is an image of Mr. Gay w. my car, just before he signed it.

a little survey... my goal is to bring back the car to its original Challenge livery... what do you guys think... should it be the first season in Italy, as it's a historic moment (see attached image of its toy version in '93 livery), or its most successful season ('95, as the car was highest ranked, 3rd overall) ?

i'm leaning towards the latter... but curious to know the thoughts here...

Let's see a photo of it in the 94 and 95 seasons. Then we can advise.

Congrats on the car and meeting the original driver!

I'd go for 1993 I think - it was the very start of the Ferrari Challenge after all.
And it's the 25th anniversary coming up.

You can get them from OMP in Italy. They were the official safety equipment supplier for the 348 and F355 challenge.

You may find the stickers on eBay if you search for OMP.

dear hive mind ! are there any good pictures of 348 Challenge (that have raced) around ? i've started to peel back the carpet in mine (see attached images), as i assume it was raced without it. i doubt the carpet is original anyways...
however there are quite a few sharp metal edges that are now exposed.
i'm just not sure if there was a unified protocol regarding what the interior needed to look like for the races (in addition to cage, seats etc.), especially regarding safety...

one mystery ist the hand brake cover, which is sown to the carpet and looks original... but why would they leave carpet below and around the seat... any ideas ?

and yes, i know the roll bar needs to be repainted black... no idea why one of the previous owners wanted it red.. :)

    Nice 348 Challenge, Vladimir!

Yes, the Rennline cable should work nicely with some minor modification. Or you can have your shop make a cable for you. My original battery cut-off cable was replaced earlier this year with one made by my shop. It's a part that can be easily replicated.

As long as I was having the battery cut-off cable replaced, I asked them to make an exterior fire suppression release cable for me on the passenger side. Originally my F355 challenge had an exterior fire suppression system switch in addition to the mechanical one in the cabin. The exterior switch was removed years ago as it was easily triggered inadvertently.

I see your car had its battery cut-off cable in the customary spot on the driver's side. The cable attaches to the red OMP battery cut-off switch on your console. It really doesn't matter where your battery is located.

    Barry
