Who was the provider for the 348 Challenge fire systems? Was it OMP? Does anyone have any ideas on where to find one or a good trunk mounted fire system for my 348? TIA

Unless it has to be a specific brand there are several who do the plumbed in kits Omp, S.p.a. Firefighter & Lifeline, I have a Lifeline kit, if you go onto Demon Tweeks (a Uk site) they have all the kits on there, it should hopefully give you some idea, they do club racing setups up to Fia approved, there are several places Uk, but as for shipping I wouldn't have thought it would be that cheap

The original 348C "system" was merely an OMP fire bottle mounted to a bracket in the passenger-side footwell, just ahead of the seat, as opposed to a plumbed system.

Ira is right. The factory challenge kits did not have a fire system, just the big bottle. I had a 94 factory challenge version with the kit and the only safety equipment were the roll cage and emergency power cut off. Things have come a long ways.

The GT Competizione Race version had a plumbed in system. I've got a schematic of it here. It doesn't mentioned what the fire system is but I would think it was OMP going by other OMP parts used on the car.

Thanks! I would love whatever documentation you have! I'll see the guys in Sebring in 10 days so I would love to know the model, mounting, plumbing, etc. when I talk to them...

    Lagerlout,

Please e-mail me all the details as i am debating installing a piped in system (for the 308) and would like to see what Ferrari did for the 348C. E-mail it to me at info AT enjoythetrack DOT com . Already have electric cut-off installed and also front and rear tow hooks.

FYI JoTeC: Such systems are available in MANY places. OMP, Sparco, etc and my fave place is www.PegasusAutoRacing.com who carries the FireBottle system i believe. There are also various chemicals used in various systems. i am looking at getting a 5lb or 10 lbs Halon system due to not leaving any residue. Make sure you enough tubing as i believe most come with minimal tubing lengths. If you cut a hole through the firewall (or any metal for that matter) MAKE SURE you use a proper grommet!

There are also different ways of working the system. You have either a pull cable or electronic. Electronic may be the only way i can go as the 308.

    JoTec,

You wire my dash I'll wire your fire system. I'm in Redondo Beach. Anyway mine is not oem challenge but properly wired and safe in my racecar. I use AFFF foam which has advantages and disadvantages over halon. Diest makes the best system nozzles but they are expensive. Be careful with too much piping because you only have 10 lbs in the bottle. I'm not a big fan of electronic activation especially with Ferrari electricals. That oem picture looks funny. all nozles are for the engine bay and none for the driver? Driver 1st, engine 2nd, extra capacity 3rd the fuel cell. Halon leaves no residue but does not prevent reignition like foam and does not work well when windy. There is one system that is user rechargeable at the track! PM me if you want to talk more. Thanks FBB! I like the engine only nozzles because of the simple fact that if there is a small fire in the engine compartment, I don't want to have to clean my interior of all the foam. If there is a fire in the passenger compartment, I'll bet it's coming from the engine compartment. Let me know what ever you need on your Ferrari, I'm down. I shook down Mike Sheehan's IMSA GTU 308 from 1990's in Willow last weekend. SCCA rules have us running a 2 valve motor but it was still fun!

Wow! How cool is that! It loks like a complete tube frame? What does that car weight? What SCCA class are you running that car in? I was at WSIR last weekend 3/4 and 5 with FCA/pantera. I did not see that car there. Did you run Friday on a test day? Next time let me know when you guys run it. I want to see.

Hey FBB, It is a tube frame car, weight is 1850 lbs. We were there for a SCCA weekend so maybe it was 2 weeks ago... (they all run together...) Initial shkedown gave us a list of things to correct back at the shop and most are done now. We will probably go to Buttonwillow in April for the next SCCA event. I was out at Fontana today for the SCCA event and Formula TR (Formula Renault). We had tracktime until noon before the rain deluge but I was able to get everyone sorted out. I think the rest of that event is a wash. (no pun intended... ;)). I'm off to Sebring Sunday morning and will be there all week. It's the first event for IMSA, SCCA Pro, Formula Mazda...
